Hungary has a temperate climate with three climatic zones: Mediterranean in the south, Continental in the east and Atlantic in the west. In general, winters are cold, cloudy and damp or windy, and summers are warm - sometimes very hot indeed! March, April and November are the wettest months. The number of hours of sunshine averages 2209 a year - among the highest in Europe. From late April to the end of September you can expect the sun to shine for about 10 hours a day. August is the hottest month (average temperature 21 C) and January the coldest (-2 C).
