Hotel Erzsebet - Budapest - Description
Hotel Erzsebet is situated in the heart of the city within a few minutes stroll from the primary business-, financial-, cultural- and commercial centres, and the famous shopping street, Váci utca. Due to its perfect location, the hotel offers a first class moderate accommodation and services for tourists and business travellers as well.
The idea of building the 3-star Hotel Erzsebet in the heart of the city came up in 1867 at first, when new multi-storied palaces and boulevards began to be built in the place of small, old houses and narrow overcrowded streets. Hotel Erzsebet was opened in 1873, the year when Budapest, Hungary's capital was born by the union of three small villages: Pest, Buda and buda (Old Buda). The small hotel was named with her permission after Sissi, Queen Elizabeth (Erzsébet), the wife of Emperor Francis Joseph, ruling the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy at that time.
The age-worn house was closed in 1976, and it was even pulled down, and the modern three-star Hotel Erzsebet was opened in the summer of 1985 in its place. Since then the hotel has been renovated several times, and today Hotel Erzsebet preserves only its excellent traditions from the more than 100-year-old past.
